Employer Feedback

Wow, what amazing feedback to receive!  Pasquill have recently recruited 4 apprentices with T3 Training who are all completing a Level 3 Design & Draughting Apprenticeship.  T3 Training advertised, pre-interviewed and provided suitable candidates for Pasquill to interview.  T3 also assisted in booking interviews in, corresponding between candidates and Pasquill and then completed all paperwork once the apprentice had been selected.  We have been dealing with Jannette Walker through the whole process and she had the following to say….

It’s been a few months since we started working with yourselves on the Apprenticeship programme and I wanted to drop you a line to say that the support we’ve had from T3 and Barnsley College has been excellent.

Leanne especially has been an absolute star, she’s taken all of the hard work out of the recruitment process for us and has found us some really credible candidates for each of the four roles.  The candidates for Bury St Edmunds in particular were excellent, I could have offered them all a job!  She has made the whole process very easy for us and anything I’ve asked for, such as feedback from candidates after interviews, she has done and got back to me straightaway.

I’ve spoken to Marcelle and Megan and had some great feedback on the training and in particular Tony, who they both agree is an excellent trainer.

As you know we’ve now recruited two additional Apprentices and I look forward to them both starting at Barnsley in September.”

Apprentice Site Visit to Charcon

Our apprentices are currently attending our training facility in Barnsley where they are receiving specialist training in various sectors. One of the training blocks is relating to RC Detailing.

Our tutor covered the following points within the week’s training:

• Introduction to RC Detailing

• Basic Design Principles

• Documentation (BS8666, EC2, Standard Method of Detailing)

• Detailing Principles – construction sequence, buildability, laps, anchorage, cover

• Drawing & Schedule Production

Once they had completed this it was arranged that they would visit Charcon Construction Solutions in Lound who design, manufacture and deal with the installation of integrated offsite solutions for the Construction industry. The apprentices got to see first-hand what they were being taught in the classroom. Once they had all their PPE on, they had a walk around the factory.

They were able to see:

Steel rebar being cut and bent automatically by a machine.

Steel fixers assembling the rebar.

The rebar in a mould and filled with concrete.

The final cast product which also gave them an understanding on what is involved in quality control.

They were able to look at a design for a set of concrete stairs and compare this to what had been manufactured.

They also watched other products being produced these included, landings, holo-core flooring and delta blocks.

The learners found the training beneficial and had the following to say:

“We had the great opportunity to go to a concrete site where they created stairs. This was really interesting as we had created our own stairs on CAD and then got to see the real thing being manufactured”

“We had an amazing site visit where you can see what we had drawn”

“After a visit to Charcon, a concrete casting site, I now understand these drawings better and am aware of the importance of reinforced concrete in construction”

T3 Apprentice Celebrates Success

One of our apprentices, Joe Maggs, who is currentlycompleting a Level 3 Digital Engineering apprenticeship has recently been recognised by his College Tutor for outstanding work.  He has submitted an assignment for the BTEC ConstructionTechnology and Design Unit which has been marked, internally verified and graded as a Distinction.  His tutor, Micah West of Barnsley College, had the following to say about it:

‘… It is an outstanding piece of work.  Joe should be very proud of his hard work. It is a good example of both Joe’s academic skills as well as his professional report-writing skills.  Joe is a fantastic student, and I am grateful that he is on my course… ‘

His T3 Assessor Anthony Ward also had the following to say about Joe:

‘… from day one, it was clear to me that Joe had commenced his apprenticeship with a mature ethos and a determination to succeed. The CAD and BIM work he undertook whilst under my guidance was exemplary and I’m sure this excellence will continue.  His employer is very supportive as evidenced by the quality of his apprentice assessment evidence.  I wish him every success for the future …’

We asked Joe for his opinion on his progress as an apprentice with T3 Training & Development:

‘…When I first started with T3 I was a little worried, being a ‘mature’ student, a few years older than anyone else in the class.  From day one I have enjoyed the process and have really started to find the college coursework interesting and a welcome break from my usual working week.

I like my tutors, and feel the course is run well, allowing me time to work and study without feeling too under pressure, and I also feel I am learning at a steady pace in college, and with my employer too.

It was really nice to see that I had achieved a good grade in one of my assignments and the praise from Micah meant a lot, as I was unsure if my writing ability was a touch prehistoric compared to the younger members of my class, not writing anything of importance for well over 10 years. It has allowed me to continue on with my current assignments in the same way, and hopefully I will achieve similar grades going forward….’

Well done Joe.

MAJOR SOUTH WEST EXPANSION PLANNED FOR T3UK

STRUCTURAL Detailing and Precast Design Consultancy T3UK is celebrating a successful first full year of trading by opening an office in Bristol.

The company, which is currently based in Barnsley and Retford, was launched by Andy Adams and Nathan Bradford, business partners with more than 20 years combined in the construction industry.

Their aim was to provide a specialist structural detailing and BIM consultancy that was independent of design or construction teams, providing integrated design, detailing and building information modelling to a wide variety of clients across the industry.

By focusing on clients goals and using the latest technology T3UK are able to significantly speed up the project lifecycle, reducing cost and improving the efficiency of the design and build process minimising risk and waste.

In just over 12 months the team has grown from three people to 13 and now T3UK is expanding with the launch of a Bristol office that will specifically meet growing demand for its services in the south west.

“T3UK utilises the latest software to deliver all our projects including Revit, Tekla Structures & CADS RC,” director Andy Adams explained.

“We work with a variety of clients nationally across all sectors including architects, consulting engineers, main contractors and specialist sub-contractors.

“But as our workload has increased we have identified a need to expand into new areas, hence our decision to open a new base in Bristol.”

At the same time, the company has also been developing T3 Training and Development, its hugely successful Barnsley based operation.

“We are heavily invested in developing young talent and 25 per cent of our work force are apprentices,” said Andy.

“It is because of this commitment to encouraging new talent that we identified a significant lack of formal training and emerging talent in the industry and established T3 Training & Development with the vision of creating a centre of excellence for the Architect, Engineering and Construction sectors.

“Our portfolio of apprenticeship training includes design and draughting, digital engineering and project controls and we also offer short training courses in revit, rc detailing, structural detailing and autocad.”

T3 Training and Development is currently delivering to 30 apprentices in its first full year and has achieved ROATP status.

Companies who have taken apprentices on through T3 Training & Development include Laing O’Rourke, Kier and FP McCann.
