Celebrating Our Apprentice of the Month: Jack Smith!
10 December 2024
Jack began his journey in August 2022 as a Drawing Management Technician Apprentice at Centara, where he quickly gained experience both in the office and out on-site. His early responsibilities included modifying CAD drawings, checking documentation, and scanning files, but he soon transitioned into the design department. Here, Jack has taken on greater challenges, such as conducting site surveys and producing detailed Circuit Diagrams, General Arrangements, and Wiring Schemes for key projects.
A project that stands out for him is Ferrybridge OTIDS, where he identified and updated outdated drawings, wiring diagrams, and general arrangements, playing a crucial role in ensuring the project’s success. This hands-on experience has been vital in his development.
“Seeing my work issued to sites and clients gives me a real sense of achievement. Each project pushes me to improve and take on more responsibility.”
Throughout his apprenticeship, Jack has built confidence, especially in communication and taking ownership of his tasks. He’s excited about progressing further in the engineering industry, meeting new people, and tackling advanced challenges that will test and grow his abilities.
“My advice to new apprentices: be confident, trust in your abilities, and don’t hesitate to embrace opportunities—you’ll keep learning every step of the way.”
He’s been guided by mentors like Steve Haywood, Design Engineer, and Andy Thornton, Project Manager, who have both played pivotal roles in his development.
With a strong foundation built through his apprenticeship, Jack is ready to continue contributing to Centara and the industry as a whole, with exciting goals for the future.
