This 5-day BIM Essentials course is designed for individuals new to Building Information Modelling (BIM) who require a comprehensive introduction to BIM concepts, tools, and workflows. The course covers the fundamentals of creating, managing, and coordinating digital construction information across project stages. Emphasis is placed on the principles of collaborative working and compliance with the ISO 19650 series, the international standard for managing information over the whole lifecycle of a built asset using BIM.

  • Introduction to and understanding BIM Policies and standards
  • How BIM is applied in a digital construction environment.
  • The stages of a BIM enabled design and construct project (RIBA, DPOW)
  • Using a Common Data Environment (CDE)
  • The contribution of digital information management technologies to a construction project.
  • BREEAM & LEED Assessment methods
  • What an EIR and BEP are used for, including application

The course is ideal for those working in or aspiring to work in design, construction, or engineering roles where digital construction practices are becoming increasingly essential. No prior BIM experience is required this course is suitable for both early-career professionals and those looking to upskill.

What You Need To Know

In order to fully benefit from this course you will;

  • Need to have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and be PC literate.
  • You don’t need any prior experience – this is designed for new users of Building Information Modelling (BIM).

Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will have gained a solid, introductory understanding of the tools, processes, and standards involved in delivering design and construction projects using Building Information Modelling (BIM). You will also have:

  • A completed portfolio of workbook-based evidence to demonstrate your knowledge

  • Resources and reference materials you can revisit to reinforce your learning

  • Access to basic online support for 30 days following course completion

What’s included (Face to Face)

We provide everything you’ll need to undertake your training with us, including;- laptops / PC’s with the latest version of AutoCAD or Revit, course materials and handouts, being taught by AutoDesk approved trainers, lunch, and refreshments throughout the day. You’ll just need to turn up and we’ll do the rest for you.

We undertake our face to face delivery at our training centre in the Midlands.

What’s included (Online)

We provide all the course materials and digital resources required to complete the NOCN Level 3 Award in Understanding Digital Construction Technology. You’ll be taught by one of our experienced tutors with industry knowledge in BIM and digital construction. As this course is delivered remotely, you will need to provide the following:

  • A suitable PC or laptop capable of running video calls and viewing course documents

  • A strong internet connection

  • A webcam for interactive sessions and tutor feedback

Our courses are delivered via our virtual learning environment, which means:

  • Our tutors are on the call throughout the full training day (typically 9am–4pm)

  • Tutors will introduce each topic, provide clear explanations, and guide you through practical workbook tasks

  • You’ll receive live support and feedback as you work through your course materials

  • If you need extra help, we can provide 1-to-1 tuition to reinforce your learning

  • Our tutors can even share screens or take control of your desktop to walk you through specific tasks – just like having someone over your shoulder
